This portrait derives from the famous statue of Alexander the Great holding a spear, a masterpiece of the Greek sculptor Lysippus, active in the 4th century BC. the holes indicate that a metal crown was insterted among the hair locks. The find spot suggests that n this particular portrait, Alexander was assimilated to the god Hercules. This portrait is dated to the 1st century BC.
