Reliquary triptych of the Holy Cross. Mosan workshop, circa 1220-1230, wood soul, chiseled silver, repousse and gilded, mixed enamels, filigree, cabochons, niello, brown varnishes, dummy relic (plaster). abbey of Saint-Jean-Baptiste and Saint-Maur de Florennes. Musée d’Art et d’Histoire (Musée du Cinquantenaire, Brussels, Belgium). Made with ReMake and ReCap Pro from AutoDesk. Under the influence of the Crusades, the cult of the Cross will intensify in the Meuse region in the middle of the 12th century. The precious relics, brought back from the East, are then often preserved and presented to the faithful in triptychs: a type of reliquary with shutters of Byzantine origin.
