The rooster, herald of the dawn, gazes up to the heavens, bathed in the golden tones of the dawn sun. As the symbol of the sun, the rooster stands as cosmic clock in agrarian cultures, standing and facing space and the limitless time of past to present, present on to the future. The rooster is seen to surpass such time and space issues. Brancusi has abstracted this richly vital rooster into a single simplified, purified form which fuses with the space around it. In this work we can see a cosmic form of harmony born. Brancusi was born into a Roumanian farm family, and from childhood he developed an interest in folk arts as he learned the family trade. He then later moved to Paris where his talents were recognized by Rodin as he became a world-renowned sculptor. His works have had a profound effect on contemporary sculpture.   This object is part of "Scan The World".
